“You can always turn something boring into something fun, and that's the best way to progress up.”

— Krystal D’Anjou, Content Creator and Presenter at Global Radio

ABOUT

So what do you actually do?

In its simplest form, we create ALL the social content that goes out across all 7 brands under the global umbrella.

What has your career path been?

I started off doing radio every Saturday at the Brit school, and this then led me to the global academy where i gained a wide knowledge on the media industry, accumulated LOADS of work experience and gained many skills, and it was these very skills that gave me the confidence to go straight into the industry rather than going to university.

What is the best part of your job?

Definitely the people and the projects i get to work on. Although I've only been working there for under a year, i definitely feel like part of the tea.

I've been on many sets, and even got featured in 2 videos, 1 with the Capital Breakfast presenters, and another where i dressed up as a mummy and jumped out of a coffin to scare all of the Heart presenters. No two days are the same.

Why do you do your job?

Since i was a little girl I've always been into making videos, i was definitely that person who always had a camera in her hand and filmed absolutely everything!!!

So now I've finally found a place where I can do that on a large scale and get paid for it. As the saying goes, if you do what you love you'll never work a day in your life.

One piece of advice for someone starting in your role?

Always have a positive attitude/mindset. Creating content is not an easy job and requires a lot of hard work behind the scenes. There will be days where you have to fill in loads of paperwork, have to leave your house at 4am to be on set, and spend hours of your day editing. At the end of the day, a job is what you make it.

On the one hand if you moan and groan it'll be super boring and long winded, whereas if you think positive like me, you can always turn something boring into something fun, and that's the best way to progress up.

People will be able to see that you love your job which will then open so many more doors and opportunities for you !

DAY IN THE LIFE

No two days are really the same in my office, however i’ll try and break it down as much as I can. So on Monday mornings we have a big weekly catch up call with the entire video team at 10:00 AM and this is where everyone gets a chance to say what projects they're working on for the week, and any general updates on what's to come for the future.

After this meeting i’ll then go onto my apprenticeship spreadsheet to see my timetable for the day. This is when i would usually receive emails from the producers asking me to pick up jobs, which can range anywhere from creating call sheets, booking couriers, collecting props, location scouting and a lot more.

Then at 12:00 PM we have a commercial-specific meeting, where we'll all talk in more detail about the projects we're working on with our external clients (for example last month's client was eBay and they collaborated with Capital).

We then state the tasks we've already completed in terms of our specific project, and then we talk about what else needs to be done before and after shoot day. For example, if we need to hire more crew, if we're waiting on a client sign off, or if any changes need to be made... things like that!

Next at 3:00 PM everyday we have our brainstorming sessions. This is where we'll go through 2-3 briefs from new clients on content they want us to create for them. As a group we will come up with ideas and video concepts that'll best speak to their target audience.

Whether that's making a Tik-Tok, short form content for Instagram, or a longer video for YouTube. Like i said, it all depends on the client's wants and needs, and so we're basically the people who turn their ideas into reality.

Then at 5:30 after I've had all my meetings, sent all my emails, and completed all my tasks, I get to go home!

Until the next day where I get to do it all over again :)
